The first Islamic bank to open in Germany has established its first office in Frankfurt, home to the ECB.

Germany is home to the second largest Muslim community in Europe, many of whose members are of Turkish origin. Islamic finance is gaining ground in Europe very slowly, due to a fragmented market and the absence of specific regulations in the sector. The United Kingdom remains the first and principal leader in Europe, with six Islamic banks and a number of window Islamic bank operations which are world leaders in the arrangement of Sukuk.
